By participating in the industry-wide
digital radio pilot project, community radio will gain experience of the future radio network. The community radio channels are sharing a program slot in the digital pilot network and Studentradion 98.8 was the first to make its debut. Now it is Radio Lidingö's turn.
"We are looking forward to taking part in this and being able to test and evaluate the radio technology of the future," says Folke Lehre, Vice President of Radio Lidingö.
The digital radio pilot project is a cooperative effort between Teracom and the program companies, which are given the opportunity to evaluate the technology, content and reception prior to an upcoming widespread launch of digital radio. At present, Teracom broadcasts the following channels with DAB+ in the digital test network: SR P2 Musik, SR P3, SR P4 Stockholm, SR Metropol, RIX FM, BANDIT, NRJ, Lugna Favoriter, Radio Deejay, Skärgårdskanalen, Dansbandskanalen, Radioseven, Studentradion 98,9 and now Radio Lidingö as well.
"
The digital technology opens up new possibilities for community radio and we are happy that Radio Lidingö wants to participate in the pilot. With digital radio, there are no longer any technical barriers to starting up regional Open Channels that can be broken down. That would make it possible for the selection from local radio to reach more listeners than they do today,” says Lars-Erik Backström, Chairman of National Organization for Community Radio (NRO).
